Built in 1907 for The Morning Post newspaper, Inveresk House, as it was then known, is one of the most important Edwardian buildings in London. The architects, Mewès and Davis, a successful Anglo-French partnership, were also responsible for the Ritz hotels in London and Paris, all of which display their talent for classical elegance and simplicity. The elegant decorative details of the dignified, listed, Louis Seize exterior are retained, together with the external ironwork on the windows. Throughout the hotel, an exciting collection of original contemporary art, which has been collected by Campbell Gray, forms a major part of the design. This is complemented by stunning flowers by Stephen Woodhams, one of London's most exciting and talented florists. The flowers are changed constantly, thus they become integral to the art of the hotel. The hotel's elegant exterior appears to be untouched, yet it has been cleaned and all the original decorative features and ironwork on the windows have been retained. The feel of the building, created by Mewès and Davis in 1907 for The Morning Post newspaper, is charmingly Parisian with its mansard roof of Westmorland slate, coppered cupola dome and curved corners. The façade is fashioned in Norwegian granite which sparkles in the sunlight as its micro flakes catch the light. With its new exterior lighting, the building has become once again the London landmark it deserves to be.
