Our Editor Heather just got back from exploring villas in Anguilla (with a quick overnight in St. Martin, too). See what made her fall in love with these special islands, and why Anguilla has some of the best villas in the Caribbean.

Anguilla
|
"Because the island is so flat, nearly every villa in Anguilla is beachfront or just steps from the water and offer incredible views of neighboring islands. The villas here are unequivocally some of the best I’ve ever seen—anywhere. The color of the water here is distinct—beaming bright light blue, almost Bahamian. It’s a color that stays with you, and no doubt beckons you back."

"The land alone is a site worth seeing - it's situated on a generous plot on the tip of the West End. There is a sunken outdoor living room which overlooks your own private swimming cove. Whether you’re having your morning tea, an afternoon read, or a sunset cocktail, I’m sure this nook gets used often. The rooms here are decorated in an approachable fashion—elegant and comfortable—and the grounds are dripping in bougainvillea."

"This five bedroom has a super modern open-floor plan living room, with large glass windows looking out to the view. We arrived right at sunset, and the lights on St. Martin in the distance were just starting to twinkle – imagine viewing from the jacuzzi at night! The bedrooms are simple and comfortable and this villa as a whole offers incredible value."

"Located right next door to the villa above, this is another spot I would rent ASAP. The idea of sunning out by the spacious pool and yard with that turquoise water in the distance is just heaven. Because of the value, I could see friends taking a girls trip here in the summer for a long weekend, or a family taking a proper weeklong vacation and having a chef cook most days."

"This is an example of a villa that guests will check in to, and might not want to leave. You have a chef included in your stay (who I met - lovely!) and he will whip up breakfast, lunch, dinner - whatever you need. Gluten allergy? Whole 30 diet? This chef has seen it all. Bedrooms here are equal in size, bougainvillea flanks the entrance, and there's a Balinese vibe infused throughout."

"The interiors here have been so well-thought out and are just ideal for families as you're all under one roof. Location-wise, Long Bay is five minutes from all the cool beachfront restaurants. This villa is part of a collection of three, great to rent in conjunction for a wedding party or big birthday bash. Did I mention you've got private steps down to a beach? Obsessed with this villa!"

"I was thrilled to see this villa first-hand, as we've had many clients stay here. The grounds here are stunning, brimming with flowers, and a path leads you out onto the beach. If you don't mind walking over a few rocks, just five minutes down Rendezvous Bay you've got great beachfront lunch choices."

"The Belmond Cap Juluca, which underwent extensive renovations, is chic beyond words: interiors mix beautiful textiles with sleek lines, while retaining the traditional Anguillan architecture. Occupying one of the most pristine beaches in the Caribbean, the resort offers a number of villas, each with their own private pool and kitchen, though you of course have access to all hotel amenities. The fact that there are two and three bedroom options makes it ideal for families. I loved this property and look forward to returning!"

Where to Eat

 |
Pimms "The more formal of the two restaurants at Cap Juluca, Pimms is decidedly elegant (I loved the amuse bouche, and personalized service). I tried the beef carpaccio and the snapper, set against the backdrop of live music (a very good band called Omalie360). A great option whether staying at the property or a villa nearby." |

St. Martin
|
"It was a quick trip to St. Martin, but I felt I could have stayed a week. There’s something about the jasmine at every turn that lulls me into nostalgia and relaxation. I hope to return to this special island soon, and I hope you and your family will consider it for your next vacation."

"The villas at La Samanna are totally private from the resort (in fact, they have a separate gated entrance), yet they have all the amenities you would expect: access to tennis, watersports, and room service. The villas are spaciously laid out and offer high ceilings for a feeling of airiness. The pools are massive and overlook the ocean, which is often dotted with sailboats."

L'Oursin "The most peaceful night was spent at L'Oursin, the waterfront restaurant at La Samanna. The water crashes right beneath you, the music is at just the right level, and the food is reason alone to go there - truly gourmet - make sure to try their pineapple tart!" |
