Turks and Caicos VACATION IDEAS

Turks and Caicos Villas and Vacation Rentals

When you stay in a Turks and Caicos villa or luxury vacation rental, you will typically be just steps from white sand beaches. Renting a villa can provide the same level of luxury as staying in a suite in a hotel, yet offers a more peaceful and private setting.

These luxury rental homes tend to be contemporary, with simple, minimalist interiors, lots of glass framing the views, comfortable furnishings, and neutral decor. The focus is on the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Most Turks and Caicos private villas feature spacious bedrooms, modern bathrooms, expansive decks or patios, and breathtaking ocean views. In short, they provide not only the comforts of home but also features and amenities that you are not likely to enjoy at home. Most beach house rentals feature well-equipped kitchens, modern audio and video systems, and washers and dryers should you wish to do some laundry while on vacation.

Beach Houses and Beachfront Villas in Turks and Caicos

Whether your preference is for total seclusion or non-stop fun in the sun, there is a Turks and Caicos beach house rental that is ideally suited for you, Even though everyone has a different vision of the "perfect" beach, the Turks and Caicos islands boast some of the world's top-rated beaches. The white sand beach at Grace Bay on Provo was voted No. 1 on the Conde Nast Traveler 2019 list of the "World's Best Beaches."

Another wonderful option is Leeward Beach, a more tranquil area east of Grace Bay. It has startlingly clear turquoise water and is known for its numerous conch (pronounced 'konk') seashells.

You won't see any luxury resorts along Leeward Beach. All you will find here are private residences and modern beachfront villas for rent. Other popular beaches on Providenciales include Long Bay Beach, known for kiteboarding, and Sapodilla Bay Beach, with calm and shallow waters, ideal for families with little kids.

Venturing to other islands in the Turks and Caicos, Parrot Cay is home to some of the most exclusive and luxurious beach houses for rent on the islands. South Caicos Island features miles of undeveloped beaches and is home to the private villas at Sailrock Resort. On Grand Turk, you can find villas for rent near Governor's Beach, renowned for the clearest water on the islands. Or opt to book a beach house on the north coast of Pine Cay, where only one resort and a few beachfront rental homes share a beautiful beach, where you can walk for miles along the sandy shores.

Turks and Caicos 5-Star Hotels and Luxury Resorts

Turks and Caicos hotels are located directly on the beach and feature tennis courts, jogging paths, gyms, pilates and yoga sessions, spa treatments, gourmet restaurants, and cocktail lounges. As a hotel guest, you have access to private suites, and you can easily book a pool cabana, a massage, a sailing lesson, an island tour, or a dinner reservation in one of the resort's own dining areas.

While there are a handful of tall hotels, most 5-star hotels here are gracious Caribbean-style hotel resorts along Grace Bay, quiet boutique hotels on secluded cays, and delightful, smaller resorts that appeal to simpler tastes.

Some are perfect for a romantic escape, while others cater to families who want to stay active and experience the full panorama of activities. Leading 5-star hotels in the Turks & Caicos islands include Wymara, Amanyara, The Beach House, Beach Enclave, and the Grace Bay Club

Turks and Caicos luxury resorts on smaller cays and private islands offer the ultimate privacy and a phenomenal opportunity to escape from reality. They are also well-suited for destination weddings and family reunions.

Where is Turks & Caicos?

The Turks and Caicos Islands consist of a chain of 40 small islands and cays. This small Caribbean nation is situated 600 miles southeast of Miami, halfway between the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

All but eight of the islands are uninhabited. The two larger islands at either end of the chain are Grand Turk to the southeast, and Providenciales (known as "Provo"), to the northwest. According to a January 2020 United Nations estimate, the total population of the islands numbers only about 40,000.

Cockburn Town on Grand Turk is the capital city and the historic heart of the island nation. But Providenciales has usurped Cockburn Town as the modern center of business, government, and tourism.

Curious about whether you will need to exchange money at the airport? You can keep your dollars as Turks and Caicos has adopted the U.S. Dollar as its official currency, although the Bahamian dollar is also widely accepted.

The lifestyle here is luxurious yet low-key. Enjoying the sea, sand, and sun is the primary way to spend a day, and the surrounding waters offer a virtually unlimited variety of marine life.

Tourism is the primary industry, and while you will find well-paved roads, modern restaurants, and contemporary shopping plazas, development has not created the "boom towns" of other destinations, nor has it spawned the chain outlets and souvenir shops that you might find in less sophisticated islands. Life in the Turks and Caicos Islands remains charming, although new development will bring some changes to the scenery.

What Is the Best Time to Visit Turks and Caicos?

The weather is tropical and relatively consistent throughout the year, and the water temperature varies by only a few degrees from winter to summer. Normal temperatures include daytime highs in the 80s; lows rarely dip below 70. The most popular times to vacation on the islands are between November 1 and June 27.

December, January, and February are typically the "coldest" months in Turks and Caicos, with daytime temperatures hovering around 80 degrees. In the summer, it can be hot, with highs in the mid-90s, but the lure of the water and the tropical breezes is delightful.

In the fall, the islands are subject to tropical storms, but actual hurricanes have rarely made landfall in the Turks.

The Best Things to Do in Turks and Caicos

Most activities center around the water: Boating, sport-fishing, swimming, kite-surfing, charter boat excursions to remote cays, kayaking or lazy days spent by a freshwater pool are all possible, no matter where you stay.

The world's third-largest barrier reef lies just off the northern shores of the Turks & Caicos islands. You'll find dozens of dive shops and boat charters catering to snorkel and scuba diving enthusiasts.

Plan an expedition to remote cays from your Turks and Caicos beach house, kayak through native mangroves, spend a morning looking for whales and rays in the clear waters, or explore the white sand beaches of centrally-located East Caicos, one of the largest uninhabited islands in the Atlantic.

Get your fill of fresh-caught seafood at casual eateries, and enjoy the service and innovative menu offerings at the best restaurants in Turks and Caicos like Coco Bistro and Solana. Those seeking a relaxed vibe can seek out the Conch Shacks and casual beach bars like Somewhere Cafe, many of which feature live music well into the late-night hours.

Learn about local crafts and history, including pirate lore and the time when rum-runners sailed the waters between the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

Grand Turk Island was first settled in 1681 by former British Colonists from Bermuda who recognized the financial benefits of sea salt production. Today you can find locally sourced gourmet salt products, carrying on the tradition. Getting to the Turks and Caicos.

For Americans and Canadians, the islands are easy to reach by air. Frequent non-stop flights are available from many major cities including New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, and London.

Most flights from the U.S. and Canada arrive at the airport in Providenciales (PLS), but Grand Turk also has an international airport. Commuter air service is available to all the inhabited islands. Non-stop flight time from Miami is less than two hours; flying from Toronto will take only about 3 ½ hours; and you'll spend just a little over five hours traveling from Denver.

It's also possible to arrive by private yacht or to charter either a "bareboat" or a crewed vessel once there. Cruisers can combine a sailing journey through the Bahamas with a visit to the Turks and Caicos, and some Turks and Caicos beachfront villas boast private docks, allowing renters to explore land and sea with equal ease. A modern cruise center opened on Grand Turk in 2006, and several cruise lines now call in Turks and Caicos, but the port calls are typically only for a few hours.
