Hotel Le Toiny St Barths – Hotel Review & Insider’s Guide

Among the most unique—and spectacularly situated—luxury hotels on St. Barts, Le Toiny is also the only one on the island’s raw southeastern “Côte Sauvage” oceanfront.

Sumptuously transformed following 2017’s Hurricane Irma, Hotel Le Toiny offers singular accommodations with immense natural beauty and a sense of luxurious isolation.

Location & Surroundings

Hotel Le Toiny St-Barth enjoys quite a distinct environmental context compared to other St. Barts luxury hotels. It’s perched on a hillside above Anse de Toiny, southeasternmost of St. Barts’ many beautiful bays. This seaboard was historically called Côte Sauvage: the “wild coast” of St. Barts.

The viewshed encompasses large swaths of undeveloped slope and rugged headlands, with the glistening palm grove of Toiny Beach below.

The hotel is situated roughly on the other side of the island from the capital of Gustavia. Given the compactness of St. Barts, though, it’s only about a 20-minute (winding) drive away.

Hotel Le Toiny’s Amenities & Services

As one of the island’s most prestigious luxury hotels, Hotel Le Toiny St. Barts nestles its guests in the lap of secluded luxury. The private suites and villas are amenity-rich in and of themselves, but the property has much else to offer.

Perhaps the standout attraction lies below the main hotel complex: the Le Toiny Beach Club. Accessible by a rough track—custom eight-passenger Land Rovers shuttle guests there—the Beach Club is a picture of Caribbean paradise.

There’s a pool (one of two at Hotel Le Toiny), palapas, and beachfront sunbeds amid the palm- and sea-grape-shaded oasis. You’ll also find the Le Toiny Boutique, with carefully curated high-end beachwear, here, as well as the hotel’s spa/wellness center: the aptly named Serenity House, one magical place to get a massage!

Le Toiny even boasts its own Surf Shack, running daily surfing clinics for anyone interested in becoming a waterman or waterwoman.

Hotel Le Toiny offers a variety of excursions, from diving, snorkeling, and deep-sea sportfishing to hiking treks and guided tours of the island interior.

Room Types & Quality

As defined at Hotel Le Toiny, “suite” is an umbrella category. The 22 guest quarters span everything from the 600-square-foot Junior Suite—the smallest of the very spacious accommodations—to duplexes and villas.

All suites here include private pools and scenic terraces; it’s impossible to go wrong with any of them!

Along with Villas Nureyev and Over the Ocean (more on those below), Le Toiny offers 13 Signature Suites, seven Spirit Suites, one two-bedroom Villa Suite, and the aforementioned Junior Suite.

Vaulted ceilings and a bright West Indian-style palette define these suites, which are as much about the outdoor fresh-air privacy as they are about the interior.

The Villa Suite (La Villa) offers 2,745 square feet of total indoor and outdoor space, with a pair of pavilions flanking the generous private pool terrace.

Jutting into the sea, the villa comprises 4,000 square feet of indoor space and 6,000 square feet of outdoor space, with a private gym, guest cottage, and butler service.

Not one but two first-rate dining establishments await you at Hotel Le Toiny, just as renowned a culinary destination as a place to overnight.

The Le Toiny Restaurant offers some of the finest French-Mediterranean cuisine on the island and boasts a three-toque rating from Gault & Millau.

From homemade pasta and rack of lamb to fish-of-the-day, the refined menu hits all the right notes—as does the incredible Caribbean backdrop. The open kitchen, outdoor bar, and firepits are the icing on the cake.

Meanwhile, down at the Beach Club, you can dine right along the Bay of Toiny under sea-grape arbors and thatched palapas.

The beachfront eats and drinks complement the high standards set by Le Toiny Restaurant. Grilled meats, seafood, burgers, salads, and more are on tap, along with the perfect tropical cool-off libations.

It’s hard not to fall in love with the Beach Club’s dress code, spelled out in a sign: “If you’re not barefoot or wearing flip-flops, you’re overdressed.”

Key Strengths & Unique Offerings

Hotel Le Toiny's location on the most remote stretch of St. Barts' coastline sets it apart. If you’re after the deepest sense of serenity and privacy, a Le Toiny suite or villa is hard to beat.

Having the plunging undeveloped hillsides and quiet sparkle of Toiny Bay as your backyard far exceeds any resort-crowded beachfront.

Insider’s Tips

  • From the private pool terrace down to Toiny Beach, early risers at the hotel are treated to some utterly spectacular sunrises!
  • The only real drawback to Hotel Le Toiny? The Bay of Toiny tends to be on the rough side, so it’s not a great place for swimming. So if taking a dip off a hotel beach is high on your list of priorities, you might consider another option. (Though Le Toiny’s Beach Club does tempt with a beachfront pool.)
